Germany cut for trophy after narrow win
GERMANY are the new favourites to win Euro 2012 with Hills and Ladbrokes after a narrow 1-0 victory over Portugal on Saturday night.
Both firms offer Joachim Low's men at 5-2 for outright glory with Spain 11-4, though Germany are available at 3-1 with Boylesports and Paddy Power, which is better than is available about Spain anywhere. Betfred and Bet365 cannot split the teams and offer 11-4 about both nations.
The Germans were well-backed once the teams were announced and bookmakers reported a rough night after the hard-earned victory, which came thanks to a 72nd-minute Mario Gomez header.
Bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth said: "It was a seven-figure loss for us with Germany the best-backed side of the tournament so far."
Gomez was pre-tournament Golden Boot favourite and he is now as short as 7-2 with Hills to oblige, though 5-1 is generally available.
Portugal are out 16-1 to win Group C, 2-1 to qualify for the knockout stages and 22-1 to win the tournament.
