Fowler 50-1 for Sawgrass success after maiden win
RICKIE FOWLER is 50-1 with bet365 and Hills to follow up Sunday's maiden PGA Tour success at the Wells Fargo Championship in the Players Championship this week.
But Fowler is 13 places back in the Sawgrass betting on one of the men he beat in the Quail Hollow play-off, world No. 1 and current US Open Rory McIlroy (D A Points completed the trio).
McIlroy, who regained top spot in the rankings from the resting Luke Donald on the back of his North Carolina efforts, is a 10-1 event-favourite with Betfred and Boylesports.
Donald and Lee Westwood are McIlroy's nearest market rivals at 16-1. Paddy Power are on their own in going 16-1 about Donald while Coral and Ladbrokes offer the 16-1 Westwood.
Tiger Woods, who missed the Wells Farco cut, and Phil Mickelson can be backed at 22-1 (Betfred and bet365 respectively).
Hunter Mahan (a standout 35-1 with Boylesports), Jason Dufner and Steve Stricker (both a general 40-1), Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Justin Rose and Jim Furyk (all 45-1 with one or more firms) complete the list of golfers abover Fowler in the betting.
Jason Day, Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen and Nick Watney are alongside him at 50-1.
And, of course, plenty of very good, Major-winning and all-time great golfers are behind him.
Defending champion K J Choi (after a play-off with David Toms) is 100-1 with Ladbrokes while Sunday's Spanish Open-winner Francesco Molinari is biggest at 70-1 with bet365.
The European Tour moves to Portugal for the long-key Madeira Islands Open where Bradley Dredge, Niclas Fasth, Alastair Forsyth, Daniel Vancsik, Jarmo Sandelin and Santiago Luna are among the past winners in the field.
