Fletcher 3-1 to finish the season as top Cat
SUNDERLAND finally agreed a fee with Wolves for Steven Fletcher yesterday and BetVictor make the Scottish international their 3-1 favourite to be the Black Cats’ leading scorer this season.
Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill had had three bids for Fletcher turned down, but he finally got his man yesterday for around £12million.
Fletcher had been in demand having scored 12 league goals for relegated Wolves last season and BetVictor have set his goals line this time at just 8.5, going 10-11 under or over that total.
That would have been enough for him to top the Sunderland list last season as Nicklas Bendtner was their leading scorer with just eight goals.
But despite being expected to beat that total, Fletcher may face stiff competition up front from Stephane Sessegnon and Fraizer Campbell, who are both 5-1, as well as fellow new boy Louis Saha, who is a 6-1 shot.
Manchester City are hopeful Sergio Aguero will be able to make his return from a knee injury in around four weeks.
The striker sustained the injury against Southampton in the 3-2 win at the Etihad on Sunday and could return against Stoke on September 15.
