Euro Zone - day ten
Sunday’s matches
IT’S been a brilliant European Championship with so many outstanding games and Holland are hoping not to become the highest-profile casualty as they launch one last bid to survive the group of death with their tournament life hanging by a thread.
The Dutch, still on zero points after two defeats, need to beat Portugal by two goals to stand any chance of progressing, although even then Robin van Persie and Co will be relying on Germany to beat Denmark.
Germany briefly topped the Euro 2012 outright betting after triumphing over Holland but they could go out with a defeat to Denmark, while Portugal are favourites to progress alongside Joachim Low’s side.
Best bet
It’s a minor miracle that Holland still have any chance of progressing to the quarter-finals but they are not yet out of the competition and look a decent bet to beat Portugal. The Dutch looked much better for their more attacking formation in the second half against Germany and a more adventurous approach could see a much brighter Oranje performance.
Longshot
There’s not a more ruthless counter-attacking international side in Europe than Germany and they can put Denmark to the sword in fine fashion to top Group B with maximum points. The Danes will have to chase the game if they get behind and Joachim Low’s favourites could be a big price to land a 3-0 correct-score triumph.
