City drift after being given Saints scare
ODDS-ON shots Chelsea and Manchester City made it a super Sunday for favourite backers, although a gallant Southampton made it uncomfortable for the champions before they sealed maximum points with a 3-2 victory at the Etihad.
City, thanks to goals from Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri, eventually made it over over the finishing line but they drifted to 11-8 from 13-10 to retain their crown after being pushed hard by the newly-promoted Saints.
Indeed the visitors equalised through Rickie Lambert and Steve Davis gave them a 2-1 lead before City’s great escape which was achieved without Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian was carried off with what looked a serious knee injury and he is out to 10-1 for the Golden Boot with Tevez into 12-1 to finish as the top goalscorer.
Branislav Ivanovic and Frank Lampard’s early goals gave Chelsea a 2-0 win at Wigan. The Blues were kept at 5-1 to grab the title but Eden Hazard, who set up both strikes, is 6-1 from 18-1 with Boylesports to claim the most Premier League assists this term.
