City close in on Red Devils by hammering Norwich
Manchester City were cut to 7-2 to win the Premier League
after strengthening their challenge with a 6-1 victory over Norwich at Carrow Road.
Carlos Tevez was the star of the show, bagging a hat-trick in only his
second start of the year, although his compatriot Sergio Aguero pushed him close with a well taken double.
City are now just two points behind Manchester United, who play their game-in hand at home to Aston Villa this afternoon.
Roberto Mancini continues to play down his team’s title chances but it has been a remarkable week for his team, who were pushed out to 20-1 in the title betting after last Sunday’s 1-0 defeat away at Arsenal.
At the other end of the table 16th-placed QPR lost 1-0 at West Brom,
resulting in their relegationodds shortening to 11-10.
And Blackburn were trimmed to 2-7 for a bottom finish after a 3-0
defeat at Swansea – their fifth loss in succession – left them three
points adrift of safety.
Charlton clinched promotion to to the Championship after a 1-0 victory at Carlisle left them ten points clear of third-paced Sheffield
Wednesday with three games left to play.
But their chances of locking horns with east London rivals West Ham
next season have receded. The Hammers won 6-0 at home to Brighton, moving to within three points of the Championship’s automatic promotion places.
