Carrick returns as Roy rings the changes
ROY HODGSON’S England squad to take on Italy on Wednesday is shorn of the majority of big names who played at Euro 2012 with Michael Carrick among those to benefit with a recall to the squad.
Carrick, 15-8 with Hills to be in England’s squad should they make it to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has not featured since 2010 with Frank Lampard also getting the nod as players such as Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Steven Gerrard and John Terry among those rested.
There were surprise inclusions for Jake Livermore and Steven Caulker of Tottenham, although both are expected to make way when the big guns return for the serious action. Caulker is 13-8 to be in England’s World Cup finals squad (bets void if the Three Lions are absent) and Livermore is 5-1.
Goalkeepers: Butland, Hart, Ruddy.
Defenders: Baines, Bertrand (Chelsea), Cahill, Caulker, Phil Jagielka, Walker.
Midfielders: Carrick, Cleverley, Lampard, Johnson, Livermore, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Rodwell, Young.
Forwards: Carroll, Defoe, Sturridge, Walcott.
