Anelka strike helps Blues top group but United slip

CHELSEA are no bigger than 4-1 second-favourites, with Coral, Hills and Ladbrokes, behind holders Barcelona for a first Champions League crown.

A diving header from Nicolas Anelka guaranteed them top spot in Group B with a 1-0 victory in Porto on Wednesday and although the Blues had already booked their berth in the knockout stages (7-2 across the board Barca did so on Tuesday with their 2-0 win over Inter), the performance and result at the Dragao Stadium was a decent show of strength.

In contrast, Manchester United slipped to a 1-0 defeat against 10-1 Besiktas at Old Trafford.

A deflected effort from Rodrigo Tello was enough for the Turkish outfit to claim victory against a second-string United, 2-5 for victory before kick-off, and end their unbeaten home Champions League run at 23.

The Red Devils are now 8-1 with Bet365, Blue Square and Ladbrokes for a second triumph in three years in Madrid next May.

Real Madrid are biggest at 7-1 with Blue Square and Victor Chandler  to triumph on their own Bernabeu patch after moving to the top of Group C with a 1-0 win over FC Zurich, while Milan drew 1-1 with Marseille.

Only a Milan win over Zurich and a heavy defeat in Marseille (4-0 or equivalent) will see them not qualify.

Bayern Munich will be geared for a final-night cracker against Juventus after a Ivica Olic goal gave them victory over Maccabi Haifa, while the Italians lost 2-0 to Group A winners Bordeaux.

The Old Lady are 33-1 with Victor Chandler to go all the way while the German giants are a general 66-1.

It is a 100 per cent book on which side joins the French outfit – Bet365 are 2-5 about Juve with Coral  5-2 about Bayern.

In the Premier League, Hull were made to sweat for a 3-2 victory over Everton.

The Tigers raced to a three-goal first-half lead, but a Kamil Zayatte own goal and a Louis Saha penalty meant it was a nervous finish.

Coral and Paddy Power are most confident about them avoiding the drop at 8-13.

Ladbrokes are a standout 12-1 about Blackburn being relegated after they lost 3-0 at Fulham. Hills are as short as 7-1.
