DIDIER DROGBA gave Chelsea a real chance of reaching the final of the Champions League as his goal just before half-time gave the Blues a 1-0 win over the mighty Barcelona at Stamford Bridge on Wednsday night.
While Chelsea remain outsiders to qualify and to lift the trophy, they have been cut from 5-1 to 8-5 to progress at Camp Nou and are 13-2 from 12-1 to end a difficult campaign as European champions. Barcelona are a best-priced 8-15 to go through and 6-5 to retain their crown.
Drogba, who had been a 10-1 shot to notch the opener, struck against the run of play as Barcelona dominated, but as Pedro struck the post in stoppage time, those few punters who took 4-1 about a Chelsea win were able to celebrate.
The Blues had been friendless in the market and both fixed-odds and spread firms hailed a “fantastic” result. The second leg takes place next Tuesday.
