Berdych and del Potro battle through in Paris
THE second quarter of the women's singles opened right up on Friday as Ana Ivanovic was dumped out of the French Open, quickly followed by red-hot Agnieszka Radwanska.
Former world No. 1 Ivanovic took the first set off Sara Errani but the Italian staged a brave fightback to thwart the 2008 Roland Garros champion 1-6 7-5 6-3.
However, the bigger shock was Svetlana Kuznetsova upending last week's Brussels heroine Radwanska 6-1 6-2. The Pole has been in superb touch this campaign but the Russian hardly ever gave the third seed a look-in during a 6-1 6-2 mauling. Kuznetsova was just 33-1 early on Friday night to add to her 2009 clay crown.
Kevin Anderson gave Tomas Berdych problems in their five-setter and that should give heart to Juan Martin del Potro, who survived a second-set tie-break wobble to fight his way past Marin Cilic 6-3 7-6 6-1.
