Beaten Latics 1-4 to slip through the trap door
Wigan are 1-4 with bet365 to be relegated from the Premier League after an agonising 3-2 defeat at home to Swansea last night.
The Latics twice led thanks to goals from Roger Espinoza and James McCarthy, but Swansea refused to roll over and struck back through Angel Rangel and Etay Shechter before calamitous Wigan defending gifted Dwight Tiendalli the winning goal.
Wigan remain 18th in the table on 35 points, three behind Newcastle, Norwich and Sunderland with just two games remaining.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez must now pick his troops off the floor for Saturday’s FA Cup final, where Wigan are 17-2 underdogs against Manchester City at Wembley. Ladbrokes offer 18-1 that Wigan lift the FA Cup and avoid relegation.
Manchester City beat West Brom 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium with Edin Dzeko bagging the only goal of the game.
There were strong rumours last night that Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is on the verge of announcing his retire-ment from the game.
Everton boss David Moyes is BetVictor’s strong 4-6 favourite to replace Sir Alex in the United dugout, while Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho is next in the betting at 6-1.
Kenny Jackett quit as Millwall manager yesterday and he was immediately made favourite to replace the sacked Dean Saunders at Wolves.
Jackett had briefly opened up at 66-1 but he was supported into favouritism for the Molineux role and some firms make him odds-on for the job.
