Samad Razavi: survbived four long days of hard-fought tournament poker

Razavi pops€71,000 Cork UKIPT event

UK poker pro Sam Razavi landed trophy and €71,000 first prize at UKIPT Cork after four long days of hard-fought tournament poker.

Of the 602 players from 28 countries who entered the €500 Main Event, 151 made day 2, and 11 returned on Sunday to play down to a winner.

Razavi, having knocked out Day 1a chip leader Sam MacDonald on Day 2, rose to the top of the chip counts and refused to be budged for most of the final day. He was challenged by German student Martin Mulsow when play got short-handed, but an unlucky crack of aces with A-K (courtesy of David O'Connor) saw Mulsow eliminated in 3rd place, winning €25,000.

O'Connor ended up heads up with Razavi with even stacks. After trading blows, Razavi finally took the advantage and finished his vociferously-supported opponent after one level. O'Connor won €41,200 in his first live event.
