Don't let a bad night turn into a horrendous night
Young professional player J P Kelly, a regular at the Luton Grosvenor, answers the questions in our Turbo interview
What is your nickname? JPfivetimes! It's a wrestling-related
nickname that I was given at school. There was a wrestler who was a five-time champion around at the time and I went out one particular night and was sick five times. The name sort of stuck from there.
Where are you based? Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
How long have you been playing
Hold'em/poker? Since I was 16. I started playing at school.
What is your biggest win? I won the £1,000 No Limit Hold'em event in this year's World Series Of Poker Europe. I also won a WSOP bracelet in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha
event.
What is your favourite casino? I would have to say the Rio in Las Vegas, home of the WSOP.
Describe your playing style: I think a lot about how people perceive me to play and adapt. I can be as aggressive as anyone or as tight as anyone. I mix it up.
What is your preferred format and
why? I prefer live. I like the convenience of online, but I am a
far better live player.
What triggered your interest in
poker? Like many, watching Late Night Poker on TV.
What would you do if you weren't a
professional poker player? I guess some sort of office job.
What is your table image? I don't chat much. I'm not good at table chat, so I don't try it. I go for the more mysterious approach.
Who is your poker hero and who
would you most like to go
heads-up against? I would have to say Phil Ivey.
What's the best bit of poker advice
given or received? When playing a cash game, don't let a bad night turn into a horrendous night.
Basically, learn to swallow a loss and don't chase.
What do you do in your downtime?
I go out a lot. I try to exercise when I can, but that's difficult. I like sports and I like to travel.
