O'Brien pair among Triple Crown entry

USA: Champion two-year-old male Hansen and Grade 1 winner Union Rags - favourite for the Kentucky Derby with Bet365 and Coral at 8-1 and 10-1 - feature among a healthy 397 entries for the US Triple Crown, along with a smattering of British and Irish nominations.

Hansen and Union Rags, one-two in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile on dirt and rated joint-best among the two-year-olds in the Experimental Free Handicap, head an entry 9.1 per cent up on 2011 for a series of races that has eluded a single winner since Affirmed in 1978.

Wrote, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf for Aidan O'Brien, has been entered forthe Triple Crown - the Belmont and Preakness Stakes are the other races in the series - along with stablemate Daddy Long Legs, who finished well adrift in 12th behind Hansen atChurchill Downs last November.

Wrote is 14-1 with Bet365 for the Kentucky Derby on May 5, the same price as Godolphin's impressive weekend winner Alpha, whois trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.

There is a British link with Kentucky Derby second favourite Algorithms, who beat Hansen in the Holy Bull Stakes last month, as racing manager for owner Starlight Racing is Jane Buchanan, who has horses with Lucinda Russell and whose brother, Peter, is that stable's number one jockey.
