Williams looking for Ciceron to shine

VENETIA WILLIAMS had three winners and five placed horses last week and the trainer is hoping a talented but erratic inmate will have one of his better days today.

Ciceron is her only runner of the day when he faces six rivals in novice chase at Leicester over 2m at 2.10 and he showed enough on his first start over fences last time to give the trainer hope.

Speaking in her stable tour in today's Racing Post, the Grand National-winning trainer said: "He has never been the most consistent horse but now and again has a flash of brilliance and I think there's every chance we'll see one of those flashes over fences this season.

"He's probably best at two miles - he jumped well but just didn't get home on testing ground at Uttoxeter on his chasing debut but showed enough to give us encouragement."

While it may not be the most high profile day of racing, it is still busy enough for a Monday in November with three meetings.

As well as Leicester, they race over jumps at Plumpton where Turn Over Sivola will be trying to give Alan King a third win in four years in the opener (12.50).

There is also Flat action at Wolverhampton where Six Of Clubs tries to make it four from four over their 2m 1/2f when he tackles 11 opponents at 5.00.
