Old Borough favourite goes to Doncaster instead

LORDOFTHEHOUSE has been rerouted to the Ladbrokes Mallard Handicap at Doncaster a week on Friday after the pre-race favourite was not declared for the Betfred-backed Old Borough Cup at Haydock.

Lordofthehouse, who had been 8-1 market leader for Saturday's race, and Ahzeemah, the 10-1 third favourite, were the most notable absentees from 14 declared for the 1m6f contest. The John Gosden-trained Tropical Beat was promoted to 11-2 favourite by the sponsor.

Trainer William Haggas is still aiming four-year-old Lordofthehouse at the Betfred Cesarewitch next month, for which he is a 16-1 chance.

He said: "Lordofthehouse is going for the Mallard. The ground is drying up at Haydock so I'm going to wait for Doncaster. The Cesarewitch is still the main plan."

Ahzeemah will be sent to Ascot for the second running of the £150,000 Ladbrokes Mobile Handicap, in which he will face 18 others.

On Thursday bookies released betting on several of the races set to be featured on Channel 4 Racing this Saturday, although for the second week in a row the show will be broadcast on digital channel More4 due to Paralympics coverage.

In the Fly London Southend Airport Handicap at Ascot, Paddy Power make Arnold Lane their 6-1 favourite, followed by 15-2 duo Imperial Guest and Primaeval.

At Haydock, Betfred have Face The Problem and Tax Free as their 5-1 joint-favourites for the 5f handicap they sponsor, while 11-4 shot Thistle Bird heads the betting for the Listed Betfred Superior Mile, followed by 3-1 Gabrial and 5-1 Fulbright.
