Blank day in Britain as snow claims Friday cards

THERE will be a blank day of racing in Britain on Friday after snow forced the abandonment of Chepstow's jumps card and the all-weather meetings at Lingfield and Wolverhampton.

Dundalk's evening all-weather fixture, due to start at 5.50, will provide the only action on Friday.

Chepstow made the decision just after 6am, some two hours before its scheduled inspection, while Wolverhampton drew stumps at 10am.

Clerk of the course Fergus Cameron said: "It's continuing to snow with approximately two inches this morning. Further heavy snow (upto six inches) is expected combined with a drop in temperature and racing has been abandoned for today."

Lingfield pushed its inspection back four times before eventually calling off at 11.40am as conditions deteriorated.

Saturday's meetings at Ascot, Haydock and Taunton have also been called off due to heavy snow.
