Frozen Wetherby forced to call off Saturday card

OFFICIALS at Wetherby have been forced to abandon the track's Saturday fixture after temperatures dropped to -5C overnight.

Jonjo Sanderson, clerk of the course at Wetherby, said: "Temperatures dropped to -5C overnight. It was forecast to drop to -2C. The ground needs sufficient time to thaw out and realistically that won't happen until 11.30am.

"Unfortunately, it is colder than we first anticipated and time and temperatures were against us so we had no choice but to call it off. It's one of those things."

The track's seven-race card was due to commence at 12.40pm.
