Celtic King marks turf debut with victory
Report: UAE, Sunday
Celtic King (Musabah Al Muhairi/Wayne Smith) marked his 35th start with his seventh win when he landed a 6f handicap on his turf debut.
The nine-year-old's previous victories were achieved on dirt at Jebel Ali, Sharjah and Nad Al Sheba and he has now won at all of the UAE tracks bar Meydan, where he was fourth on his solestart last month.
Smith, winning for the fourth time on Celtic King, was delighted to be aboard for the gelding's first win since November 2010.
"This horse always trieshis very best and has run some really honest races in defeat," Smith said. "Traditional dirt always suited him and not many horses have won on three dirt surfaces here in the UAE and now he can add turf to his cv.
"I was hoping he would run well and we were keen to try him on grass but there are so few suitable opportunities.
"If we can find a race he will be back here, but if not it will probably be back to Jebel Ali on a surface he really enjoys."
