VIDEO: An apprentice contest on the all-weather at Lingfield made a little piece of history on Wednesday when there were only officially two finishers in the seven-runner 6f handicap due to poor visibility.
It was a case of the judge Dave Smith not having the foggiest where all bar the first two had finished as the lingering fog thickened in the home straight as Baby Dottie flashed home clear of Spartic.
The winner was announced but nothing else, even when a stewards inquiry was called leaving punters in the dark for 40 minutes. The official first two was confirmed but the rest were left to themselves.
