Gabrial is my best chance at Chester - Koukash
MARWAN KOUKASH expects Gabrial to add to his hefty haul of Chester winners this week when he runs in the Stella Artois Huxley Stakes on Thursday, the owner reveals in an interview with the Weekender.
The four-year-old, who opened his account for the season in a Listed race at Doncaster last month, holds a number of top entries this term and his owner hopes he will bolster his claims to compete at the highest level with a strong performance at the Roodee this week.
"Gabrial is now 111 but Richard [Fahey, trainer] rates him so highly that he's entered him in the Group 1 Queen Anne, Prince of Wales's and Eclipse," he says.
"He also told me the horse wouldn't have blown out a candle immediately after the Doncaster race, so he clearly won with plenty in hand.
"It's not a long home straight and not very wide [at Chester], so he can race down the middle and won't lose much ground. Gabrial is my best chance of a Chester winner this year."
Weekender columnist Kieren Fallon is also hopeful of a good meeting and rides Very Good Day for Koukash in the StanJames.com Chester Cup on Wednesday.
"The Chester Cup looks ultra-competitive as always and my mount Very Good Day, for Dr Marwan Koukash, has some good form over 2m," he writes.
"Last season he won a decent two-miler at York off a mark of 85 and off 92 this week he is not harshly treated but stall 13 is a big minus."
