War Command likely to take chance in Phoenix
WAR COMMAND, favourite for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas since his six-length win in the Coventry Stakes, is likely to have his next race in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on August 11.
The stunning Royal Ascot display has left the Ballydoyle two-year-old a 7-1 chance for the Guineas, with the John Gosden-trained maiden winner Kingman next best at 10-1.
Trainer Aidan O'Brien said: "We're training War Command with the Phoenix Stakes in mind - that will be the plan if we're happy with him closer to the time."
O'Brien has sent out 12 winners of the 6f event, including George Washington, Holy Roman Emperor and Mastercraftsman. He was successful with Pedro The Great a year ago.
The Coolmore team will decide over the weekend whether Venus De Milo will be supplemented for Saturday's Darley Irish Oaks.
"We're considering supplementing her and will decide over the next couple of days," O'Brien said of the daughter of Duke Of Marmalade, who made a winning debut at Fairyhouse last month before following up in the Listed Naas Oaks Trial.
US import Darwin, who made a successful debut for O'Brien in a three-runner event at Naas last month, maybe in action at the Curragh next weekend.
O'Brien added: "We're looking at running Darwin in the Group 3 Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday."
