Lame Summery Justice out of Welsh National
VENETIA WILLIAMS on Friday morning ruled Summery Justice out of Saturday's Coral Welsh National after the heavily backed seven-year-old, 10-1 with the sponsors for the marathon handicap, was found to be lame.
Williams, who landed the Welsh National with Jocks Cross in 2000, had spoken enthusiastically this week about her chance of a second triumph in the race with Summery Justice, an eight-length winner on his most recent outing at Bangor.
That optimism was echoed by punters, who had backed the stayer into as short as 9-1 with Boylesports from 20-1 last week.
Williams said: "I am hoping it is nothing serious and the vets will check him over later this morning. He seems slightly lame behind and I will know more later."
With Summary Justice missing the race, Aidan Coleman switches to take the ride on Flight Leader.
Also missing from the race is the well-fancied Lochan Lacha, the first of six horses eliminated with a maximum field of 20 set to line up in the 3m5½f contest. Last Sunday's Sussex National second Master Overseer is also among those eliminated.
Last season's winner Dream Alliance will be back to defend his title. Silver By Nature, second on that occasion, is set to carry top weight.
