Prodromou to appeal £7,500 non-trier fine

TRAINER George Prodromou is planning to appeal after the BHA disciplinary panel fined him £7,500 under the non-trier rule over the running of Valmari who finished tenth of 13 in a Kempton handicap last month.

Apprentice Charlotte Kerton was given a 42-day suspension, and the mare banned from racing for 40 days.

The panel has still to announce their reasons for the findings of Tuesday's inquiry, but in delivering guilty verdicts against the pair, they decided Valmari had intentionally not been asked for sufficient effort.

A 33-1 chance, Valmari was slowly away in the 1m 2f handicap on April 16, and held up in last place until Kerton nudged her along in the straight. While picking up her whip, she failed to make any connection on a couple of occasions.

Speaking after the hearing, Norfolk-based Prodromou said: "I am definitely goingto appeal and to be quite honest I'm really upset."
