FIRE AND RAIN made virtually all the running to land the richest win of his career at the expense of The King Of Angels, who was less than foot perfect.

Set to cover more than two furlongs further than he ever had, the six-year-old was jumped out in front by Noel Fehily, out to maintain his unbeaten record on the Emma Lavelle-trained 7-1 chance, and was barely headed.

"I've ridden him four times and won on him four time," said Fehily, "so you could say we're good friends.

"When I saw the entries for this and the weight he had I knew he had a brilliant chance. He's such a great jumper and loves being left along out in front like that to do his own thing."

The 11-4 favourite Sea Wall threatened early on, but weakened passing the stands for the last time. Rakalackey was driven to challenge entering the home straight, but could not quicken and The King Of Angels threw it away when crashing through the third-last and final fences.

A last-gasp lunge came from Keenan's Future, who rallied up the home straight to land in second after the last obstacle, but Michael Murphy could muster no more from the eight-year-old and they were passed by The King Of Angels on the line.
