Weather delay on Kentucky Oaks card
USA: Churchill Downs was hit by a weather delay after nine races on Friday when rain hit the track during the Kentucky Oaks card.
With thunder and hail forecast to arrive at about 5pm (10pm BST), the horses for the tenth race were taken out of the paddock and back to the barn.
An official announcementadvised patrons of the infield to exit and seek cover until the storm passed. "Please carefully evacuate the infield until the storm has passed," read on-course screens.
However, the storm was not as powerful as feared and had passed by 5.15pm.
The Kentucky Oaks, the 11th race on the card, is now due to start at 6.30pm local time (11.30pm BST), 45 minutes later than scheduled.
