Unzip Me sews it up in Santa Anita sprint

Santa Anita: Monrovia Stakes (Grade 3) 6½f, turf, 4yo+ f/m

CALIFORNIAN turf specialist Unzip Me (Marty Jones/Rafael Bejarano) recorded yert another wire-to-wire victory on Santa Anita's idiosyncrtaoic downhill chute in the Monrovia on Sunday.

A good third in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint away from home in Kentucky on her last start, the five-year-old mare scored by 1¼ lengths from of Broken Dreams.

Top filly Evening Jewel, third in the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic, was fifth of six as she returned after a break over a trip well short of her optimum.

The prolific Unzip Me, sent off 7-10 favourite, had four previous wins to her name at the track and has now won eight from 12 on grass altogether.

 "She's a special horse," said trainer Marty Jones.  "She ended up having a great trip - she got a nice, easy lead like she likes and did her thing. Once she gets out of there and gets going, she's something special."
