Three-time US Grade 1 winner It's Tricky retired
USA: Godolphin's Breeders' Cup team has shrunk by one with news that star US filly It's Tricky, a three-time Grade 1 winner, has been retired with an injury to her off-hind ankle.
According to trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, the four-year-old daughter of Mineshaft sustained the beginnings of a condylar fracture during a bullet five-furlong breeze on Thursday morning as she prepared for the Ladies' Classic and her latest clash with defending champ Royal Delta.
"She worked well and the next morning when we went to look at her, she had heat and inflammation in her right hind ankle," said McLaughlin.
"No surgery will be required - we just have to stop on her and at this point, she'll go on to her new career as a mother."
Out of the first three only once in 14 career starts, It's Tricky won the Garde 1 Acorn Stakes and Coaching Club American Oaks as a three-year-old, when she was second to Royal Delta in the Ladies' Classic at Churchill Downs.
This season she added another Grade 1 victory in the Ogden Phipps Handicap before finishing second in the Beldame (again to Royal Delta) last month on her final start.
