RICHARD MANDELLA, back on the mark at last month's Breeders' Cup with Beholder, took out the Boxing Day feature with Jimmy Creed (Garrett Gomez) surged late to score by three-quarters of a length.

PICTURE: Getty ImagesSent off 8.5-1, the son of Distorted Humor was Mandella's fifth win in the Malibu, and it was achieved in an excellent time of 1m20.36s after a ground-saving trip stalking the leaders.
Odds-on favourite The Lumber Guy, runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Sprint, was only seventh.

Late-running sprinter Book Review (Bob Baffert/Rafael Bejarano), a 4.8-1 chance, sat off a vicious three-way pace battle before charging down the centre of the stretch to score by a neck from the game Reneesgotzip, with 2-5 favourite My Miss Aurelia only third.
The winner, a daughter of Giant's Causeway, was making her debut for Baffert after leaving Chad Brown.
