Dank destroys Beverly D rivals for British one-two

Report: USA, Saturday

Arlington Park: Beverly D Stakes (Grade 1) 1m1½f, turf, 3yo+ f/m

IN A commanding display, Dank (Sir Michael Stoute/Ryan Moore) led home Gifted Girl for a memorable British one-two in the Beverly D, the $750,000 highlight of the Arlington Million undercard.

The four-year-old, who was completing a big-race double for Moore after Dandino's success in the American St Leger, charged away from her rivals in the stretch to score by more than four lengths. The Irish-trained Duntle was a disappointing seventh as she stepped up in trip on ground faster than she likes.

Racing on Lasix for the first time, Dank was sent off 3.2-1 second favourite behind last year's runner-up Marketing Mix, who finished only fourth behind James Wigan's filly.

"She has such a great turn of foot," said Wigan, speaking to the Daily Racing Form. "Obviously she has improved over the last year."

Moore added: "When she ran at the Curragh last time, she really impressed me. I had every confidence in her today. She's been really aggressive all year and I thought she was coming into this in unbelievable shape."

The Beverly D is a Breeders' Cup Challenge 'Win and You're In' race for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, where Dank will surely be a major player now after taking this prestigious contest with such a breathtaking turn of foot.
