BELLE ROYALE (Simon Callaghan/Joel Rosario), who landed a hat-trick last summer for Mark Brisbourne in England, took her winning streak to five when triumphing in Grade 1 company for Michael Tabor at Hollywood Park.
The four-year-old was also completing back-to-back successes in the Gamely for expatriate trainer Simon Callaghan, who took the $250,000 Memorial Day highlight in 2011 with Dubawi Heights.
Simon Callaghan: back to back wins
PICTURE: Mark CranhamHaving had just one rival behind her six furlongs, Belle Royale finished with a flourish from the back to beat Quiet Oasis by a half-length.
"I wouldn't say I gave up on the turn because this filly really finishes," said Callaghan. "But the nature of this course has been very speed-favouring all meet. Because of that, our plan was to be forward a little more, maybe fourth.
"But she's just one of those fillies that drops herself in and relaxes. She's got an unbelievable turn of foot and that is a very big weapon. The big thing with her is she loves firm ground. She's one of those fillies who always gives 100 percent and she's also got a lot of class. I'm very lucky to train a filly as good as this."
Callaghan is now eyeing the Beverly D at Arlington on August 18.
