'Unraceable' Warwick to look again on Friday

WARWICK will hold a further inspection at 8.30am on Friday ahead of its meeting on Saturday.

Officials are keen to save their biggest meeting of the year, featuring the Classic Chase, although they admit prospects remain slim as the course is still unraceable after having a look on Thursday afternoon.

"We have seen a slight improvement in track conditions. The track is still frozen in places and currently unraceable," said clerk of the course Andrew Morris.

"The forecast is for -2C this evening with temperatures getting up to 2C tomorrow followed by a further night of frost on Friday and daytime of plus four on Saturday.

"However, this is Warwick's biggest meeting of the year and we want to try to give it every chance without inconveniencing people too greatly.

"Chances of racing currently remain slim and we need the forecast to be vastly wrong in terms of the temperatures."

The going is described as good to soft, soft and frozen in places.

At 4.20pm on Thursday Betfair was offering 3about racing going ahead at the track and 1.2 about the meeting being abandoned.
