Yaa Wayl makes winning start for new connections

Report: UAE, Friday
Jebel Ali

Yaa Wayl (Dhruba Selvaratnam/James Doyle) made a winning start for his new yard with a comfortable victory in the featured 7f handicap at Jebel Ali on Friday afternoon, providing his jockey with a first winner of the season.

A Listed winner for the late Michael Jarvis, Yaa Wayl then won once for Saeed bin Suroor, for whom he campaigned with honour at each of the last three Meydan Carnivals.

Doyle said: "He is a nice addition to the yard and a genuine Carnival horse who has opened up more options by winning on the dirt here. He should improve for this run and can hopefully go on."

Apprentices Noel Garbutt and Willy Twiston-Davies both rode their first ever UAE winners with the former combining with trainer Erwan Charpy, opening his seasonal account, with Crackdown.

They were the easy winners of a 1m handicap, while Twiston-Davies, having his second UAE ride and first on a Thoroughbred locally, landed the opening 1,400m handicap on Enery.

Course specialist Latkhaf (Ali Rashid Al Raihe/Royston Ffrench) registered a fourth course (and career win) in a 6f handicap marred by the tragic fall of Hajjaan.

Storm Belt and Henry Clay (both Doug Watson/Pat Dobbs) provided connections with a double when winning the concluding 1m1f and 1m2f handicaps.
