Treble Jig bids for more glory at Jebel Ali

Preview: UAE, Friday

Jebel Ali: Jebel Ali Stakes (Listed) 1m2f, dirt, 3yo+

Treble Jig (Musabah Al Muhairi/Wayne Smith) will bid to cement his name in UAE racing folklore when bidding to become the only horse to win two runnings of the Jebel Ali Stakes, the first of the track's three feature races this season.

He followed up his win in the race last year with an unprecedented double in the Jebel Ali Mile (upgraded to Group 3 status this year) and Smith sounds particularly bullish.

"He is just a totally different horse at Jebel Ali and won the prep well a fortnight ago over a mile and one furlong," he said.

"The extra furlong is in our favour and we are very confident of a big run and season with him. He has matured mentally this season and also run well at Abu Dhabi and Meydan so, all things going well, it will be the Jebel Ali Mile in a fortnight and then we will have a think."

He faces six rivals with course-and-distance winners Jutland (Doug Watson/Pat Dobbs) and Mulaqat (Dhruba Selvaratnam/James Doyle) perhaps most likely to chase him home, but they were put firmly in their place in that prep when Treble Jig was penalised.

Haatheq (Ali Rashid Al Raihe/Paul Hanagan) was second to Treble Jig in that race, just as he was in last year's Jebel Ali Mile and he will be hard to beat in the prep race for the 2013 renewal of the Mile.
