Mushreq camp aiming for Dubai Duty Free spot
Preview: UAE, Sunday (3.30pm GMT)
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Championship (Group 3) 1m3f, turf, 4yo+
THE Mike de Kock-trained Mushreq (Paul Hanagan) could earn a place in the Dubai Duty Free at Meydan on World Cup night at the end of the month if he wins Sunday's Group 3 feature at Abu Dhabi convincingly.
A Group 2 winner at Meydan last year and successful at Listed level at the track this term, Mushreq was last seen finishing a close fifth in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta.
Hanagan, whose boss Hamdan Al Maktoum owns the six-year-old, said: "He had a great carnival last year and started this one in the best possible way. Things have just not quite fallen into place for him since, but he is a good horse.
"It would be nice to get him in the Duty Free but I think we would need to win well here."
Doug Watson saddled Jutland to win the race last year, earning a place in the Dubai Gold Cup, in which he was fourth.
That is the aim again. Watson, who also runs So Beautiful, said: "He is in good form and has been running well, often under a penalty for his win in this race 12 months ago.
"He should go well, but I think we need a victory to get in the Gold Cup."
