Jaasoos bids for third win in National Day Cup

Preview: UAE, Sunday (2.00pm GMT)

Abu Dhabi: National Day Cup (Listed) 1m, turf, 3yo+

Jaasoos (Dhruba Selvaratnam/James Doyle) seeks an unprecedented third victory in the first big race of the UAE season when he faces 12 rivals in the National Day Cup.

Narrowly denied a third consecutive victory in the 1m contest last year, he then won the Listed HH The President Cup before a fourth in the Listed Jebel Ali Mile.

Now eight, he made his seasonal return over the minimum trip of 5f at Jebel Ali last week and Selvaratnam said: "We needed to get a run into him before the National Day Cup and he would have needed that over a trip short of his best. He should run well but this looks a strong renewal with the likes of Treble Jig and Derbaas in there."

The Jebel Ali Mile was won by Treble Jig (Musabah Al Muhairi/Wayne Smith).

Smith said: "Our fellow is in great form. His very best form is at Jebel Ali but he won at Abu Dhabi and will not be disgraced."

Hamdan Al Maktoum dominated the prep race for Sunday's contest three weeks ago when Derbaas (Ali Rashid Al Raihe/Dane O'Neill) led home a 1-2-3 for the owner who has six runners this time.

O'Neill said: "He won the prep well and has a touch of class. With luck in running he has to go very close."
