Dubai Carnival hopes in action at Abu Dhabi
Preview: UAE, Sunday 3pm GMT
SEVERAL horses likely to be involved in the 2010 Dubai Carnival are set to run in the sole thoroughbred race at Abu Dhabi's Sunday evening meeting, the first UAE meeting of the year.
Ans Bach (Dhruba Selvaratnam/William Buick) makes his seasonal debut in this 7f turf conditions race, having won the 2007 HH The President's Cup over the same course and distance.
With the stable jockey on Ans Bach, Ted Durcan gets the leg-up on stablemate Born To Be King, making his UAE debut after leaving Balydoyle, for whom he beat just one home on his most recent outing in the St James's Palace Stakes.
Ali Rashid Al Raihe and Royston Ffrench, who head the trainer and jockey tables respectively, team up here with Vito Corleone, twice a Group 1 winner in his native Chile.
Those wins were on dirt so he needs to prove his effectiveness on the Abu Dhabi turf.
Doug Watson runs both Absent Pleasure and Masaalek and the latter looks the type to have progressed with the benefit of a UAE summer on his back. His two runs at the 2009 carnival were in ultra competitive handicaps and this looks easier.
Greek Renaissance (Erwan Charpy/Pat Smullen), off the track since July 2008, was a Group 3 winner for Godolphin in 2007.
