Hannon set to train for Godolphin in first season
IN his first season with a licence, Richard Hannon jnr will train a horse for Godolphin, as unbeaten juvenile Piping Rock has been announced as one of two major purchases by Sheikh Mohammed's operation.
Last week Richard Hannon confirmed his son will take over the licence from January 1, and he has received a big vote of confidence with Godolphin deciding to invest.
Horris Hill winner Piping Rock, who was owned by Bob McCreery and Pall Mall Partners, will now carry the famous blue silks, along with Irish Derby winner Trading Leather.
Jim Bolger and Godolphin have already enjoyed big-race victories this year in the 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes with Dawn Approach, and their successful association is set to continue as Godolphin have purchased a majority share in the three-year-old.
Trading Leather was also runner-up in the King George VI and Juddmonte International before finishing third in the Irish Champion Stakes this year.
Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "We are delighted both Trading Leather and Piping Rock will race for Godolphin next year.
"Trading Leather has already shown excellent form at the highest level and we hope Piping Rock can develop into a top Group 1 performer too."
