Jackpot expected to break £1 million barrier

FINDING the winners of the first six races at Hexham could make one lucky punter an instant millionaire this afternoon, with the Tote Jackpot win fund expected to break the magic million mark.

The bet has not been landed since last Sunday at Salisbury and with the five days of Royal Ascot proving too tough a nut to crack, £429,414.10 rolled forward to Hexham, with the pool fund already over £450,000.

Totepool spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: "With over £400,000 already in the pot we expect it to hit seven figures this afternoon and hopefully we'll create the next Tote millionaire at Hexham."

Although the first three legs have short-priced favourites, leg four, the 2m4½f handicap hurdle (3.30) has 9-2 joint-favourites, while the next race, a 16-runner 3m1f handicap chase (4.00) also appears wide open with Presenting Junior favourite at around 4-1.

Anyone who makes it to the final leg at 5.00 is faced with a trappy 11-runner 2m½f handicap hurdle.
