PETERBOROUGH CHASE winner Tartak was given a super ride by Paddy Brennan to deny Carole's Legacy in a brilliant finish to the Victorchandler.com Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.
The Tom George-trained eight-year-old, who returned at 7-1, was delivered to perfection by Brennan, beating 7-2 favourite Carole's Legacy by three-quarters of a length.
Mahogany Blaze ran with credit to claim third at 25-1.
It was a maiden Cheltenham success for Tartak, who was cut to 14-1 (from 20) by Stan James for the Ryanair Chase, a race George is targeting.
"It's great for him," George said. "When he was a novice he was banging on the door at the top and was fifth in the Arkle.
"He always takes two races each year [to get fit] and I think he'll improve again. The aim is the Ryanair."
The victory was also a welcome tonic for George, who added he was keen to put a disappointing 2010 behind him.
