Heavy rain expected to hit Thursday fixtures

ALL meetings will go ahead today after Tramore passed an early morning inspection, but heavy rain is expected across much of Britian and Ireland.

Ayr, racing on the Flat, warns that "ground will ease" today from the current going of soft after forecasts showed heavy rain headed for the track this morning and afternoon, with 10mm-20mm expected.

Heavy rain is also forecast for Exeter's first meeting of the season today. Appropriately they begin the season with a nod to the future in the shape of a novices' hurdle.

John Ferguson, who has assembled a remarkable team for this season, has the favourite in the shape of Printmaker, an interesting Flat recruit who won twice and placed three times in 11 runs for Ger Lyons.

At Worcester, meanwhile, forecasts warn of up to 9mm of rain, but with the ground currently good conditions are unlikely to favour mudlarks.

Champion jockey Tony McCoy is in action there and perhaps his best chance falls in the last, in which  Prompter, who was rated 106 at his peak on the Flat, is odds-on to get the better of a field including The Lemonpie, who has won four of his last six over jumps.
