Fahey after Haydock victory with Gabrial

GABRIAL will try to extend the Classic generation's fine record in the Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock today, a Group 3 in which three-year-olds traditionally fare well in.

Although older horses have won the last two renewals, five of the last nine runnings of the race have gone to three-year-olds, and Richard Fahey's representative is the sole three-year-old in the five-strong field.

The trainer said: "This looks a good opportunity for him. We'll put on the cheekpieces to help him concentrate. He ran pretty well last time at Goodwood considering it was a messy race and he got hampered. This trip is as far as he'd want to go. He's at his best on good to firm."

Jet Away is favourite for a race his trainer Sir Michael Cecil last won in 2008 with Multidimensional, while at Newmarket Certify will attempt to remain unbeaten after a taking performance on debut when stepping up into Group 3 company in the Sweet Solera Stakes.

At Ascot, team racing takes centre stage for the Shergar Cup where the likes of Yutaka Take and Chantal Sutherland will be on show, with James Doyle, Kieren Fallon and Johnny Murtagh flying the flag for team Great Britain and Ireland.

There is also racing at Redcar, evening action at Ayr and Lingfield, while Kilbeggan race in Ireland.
