Body And Soul strikes in Weatherbys Super Sprint

Report: Newbury, Saturday

Weatherbys Super Sprint (Handicap) 2yo, 5f

ANOTHER big race, another victory for Yorkshire. The Tim Easterby-trained Body And Soul won the Weatherbys Super Sprint with a late attack, giving her trainer a second big-race win of the day.

He had won the Listed John Smith's City Walls Stakes at York with Hamish McGonagall just ten minutes earlier, while fellow Yorkshire-based trainer Richard Fahey enjoyed a vintage day including victory in the July Cup.

It had looked as though Lyric Ace and Satsuma, racing alone on the far side in the Super Sprint, had a crucial advantage but it evaporated close home as 9-2 favourite Body And Soul launched her successful attack.

Easterby, who watched the race from York, said: "That was great. She is very game and tough and to win like that was fantastic. This race was the plan from the start and the plan now is the big sales race at the Ebor meeting."

Nicky Mackay, who rode Satsuma into second, said: "I had to go where I went from that draw. I think we were pretty even with the main group, but I wasn't worried about them. I was just concentrating on mine."

Momalorka completed the places and her rider Kelly Harrison said: "I've never ridden one that tries as hard as she does. It's just a shame it wasn't six furlongs, as five is just a bit too sharp."
