Roi Du Mee benefits from Bostons Angel fall
Report: Thurles, Wednesday
John Meagher Memorial Chase (Listed) 2m6f, 5yo+
ROI DU MEE made it back-to-back wins over fences when landing an incident-packed race that ended with just three finishers.
It looked a match on paper between the Gordon Elliott-trained seven-year-old and former RSA Chase winner Bostons Angel and, as the race started to warm, it appeared that would be the case.
However, as Roi Du Mee moved into a clear lead approaching the fourth-last, the race quickly unraveled.
First Ordinary Man, still in contention at the time, took an almighty fall, leaving Bostons Angel in second place.
Approaching the third-last he was just starting to eat into Roi Du Mee's lead but made an almost identical error to Ordinary Man, ending his race prematurely.
That left dual Grade 3 winner Roi Du Mee to coast home under Davy Russell, with Quarryvale and Ballinahow Lady the only other finishes.
Elliott said: "He's a grand little horse, he's not the biggest but we could do with a few more like him. He'll keep to race with smaller fieldsm away from Grade 1s and 2s and he should pay his way."
Both fallers, and their jockeys, appeared to escape serious injury.
