Thousand Stars gunning for Boyne Hurdle success

THOUSAND STARS, runner-up behind Hurricane Fly in the Irish Champion Hurdle last time out, has his first start at Navan this afternoon with trainer Willie Mullins hoping it can be a winning one in the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Boyne Hurdle (2.05).

A three-time Grade 1 winner, including twice in France at Auteuil, Thousand Stars holds an entry for the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, but Mullins is considering waiting for Aintree and a crack at the John Smith's Aintree Hurdle.

The trainer said: "Thousand Stars seems to be coming back to form. We were very pleased with his run in the Irish Champion Hurdle. Although he has a Grade 1 penalty, he has proved his versatility in terms of distance and will handle the ground."

The Boyne Hurdle is one of four Grade 2 contests at a cracking card at Navan this afternoon, including the rearranged Red Mills Chase, Flyingbolt Novice Chase and Irish Form Book Ten Up Novice Chase.

There is also jumps racing from Taunton and Wetherby, providing the latter passes an inspection at 10.30am, plus an all-weather card at Southwell.
