Storm-hit Fontwell ready for Thursday fixture

FONTWELL racegoers will have full use of all their usual facilities at Thursday's meeting despite the grandstand suffering some damage during last week's storms on the south coast.

Phil Bell, Northern Racing's executive director for the south east, said on Wednesday: "It's business as usual for tomorrow's meeting, but we did suffer a small amount of damage duringthe storms last Tuesday.

"Some of the glass from the canopy over the top floor of the grandstand blew out. They were quite large sections of glass and some landed on the roof and some on other parts of the site.

"Everything has been tidied up now, and the remedial work done. We've a few repairs still to do, but racegoers won't experience any problems tomorrow."

West Sussex was battered by  last Tuesday's storm with reported wind gusts upto 80mph, which also ripped the roof off Epsom's Duchess Stand.
