Sprinter Sacre gets all clear for Punchestown

SUPERSTAR chaser Sprinter Sacre has been confirmed as the headline act at Punchestown next week, according to a statement released by the racecourse on Friday.

Trainer Nicky Henderson has been keen on the idea of running the highest-rated British jumps horse in training in Tuesday's Champion Chase subject to health checks and suitable ground.

However it appears Sprinter Sacre has now been given the go-ahead for the feature race on the opening day of the five-day meeting.

"We are very happy with the horse and very much looking forward to taking him to Ireland," said Henderson in the statement.

"He deserves to go and Punchestown has always been very good to us. Barry [Geraghty] sat up on him yesterday and said that he felt great. All his checks are good and he appears to be in great form."

The ground at Punchestown was described as soft to heavy, heavy in places on all tracks following 5mm rain since 8am on Thursday.

Sprinter Sacre is one of a possible eight runners in the Champion Chase at Punchestown and 1-10 with the sponsors to increase his winning run to ten straight chase wins.

Boylesports spokesman Leon Blanche said: "It's a privilege to have the third-highest rated Time Form horse ever compete in the Champion Chase on Tuesday.

"Sprinter Sacre is red hot favourite at 1-10 while Boylesports are offering the rest of the field at 6-1."
