Southwell turf returns after three months

TURF racing returns to Southwell for the first time since November 12 today when the course hosts a seven-race jumps card.

Heavy flooding forced Southwell to abandon all its fixtures in December and January, and the track's Fibresand all-weather course staged action for the first time since November this month.

Today marks the reopening of the jumps circuit and clerk of the course Roderick Duncan said: "It was under water for three days and was waterlogged again for our meeting at the start of February, but it is in great order now.

"I'm absolutely delighted with how well the grass has recovered. There are one or two areas of discolouring, but generally it is okay."

Jonjo O'Neill, who has had more runners than any other jumps trainer at Southwell in the last five seasons, has seven horses engaged.

The going is soft, good to soft in places, with a dry day forecast.

Going report
chase - heavy, soft in places; hurdles - soft, heavy in places
Southwell: soft, good to soft in places
