Southwell fit to stage Wednesday meeting
RACING at Southwell goes ahead as planned on Wednesday after the course passed an inspection at 6am on the day of racing.
The threat of sub-zero temperatures on Tuesday night forced clerk of the course Roderick Duncan and his team to check the condition of the track, but no problems were reported with highs of 5C.
"Temperatures were better than expected and there are no problems," Duncan said on Wednesday morning.
The going at Southwell is described as good to soft, soft in places - 7.3 on the GoingStick - and there could be some light showers during racing, which starts at 12.40pm.
Racegoers should be aware the road from Fiskerton to the Fiskerton level crossing is closed for the rest of January and all of February and diversions are in place.
