Southwell: trainers made their way to the track on Wednesday afternoon

Southwell confident of racing on Thursday

WITH Thursday's three jumps fixtures already abandoned in Britain and Ireland and inspections planned for the all-weather cards at Lingfield and Kempton, racing is at least expected to take place at Southwell, the remaining meeting of the day.

Southwell's clerk of the course, Roderick Duncan, said the card was certain to go ahead, with determined trainers from across the country making their way to the fibresand track on Wednesday afternoon.

Duncan said on Wednesday afternoon: "I'm absolutely confident we'll race tomorrow. We had substantial snowfall early this morning and we set to work clearing the track.

"We then began clearing the public areas and access roads at 6am and they are now clear. We've had horses galloping today and all the reports we've had are that the ground is riding well."
